Celova®

> Celova

Crafted from nature

Weidmann’s Celova serves as a natural alternative to synthetic ingredients, crafted into gels and powders through a purely mechanical process, ensuring an eco-friendly solution in your applications without compromising on quality.

Celova is microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) made from wood. Wood is built up by a cellulose fiber matrix; the fibers consist of thin fibril bundles held together by hydrogen bonds. Weidmann’s purely mechanical process essentially tears the hydrogen bonds apart and allows water molecules to fill in between the fibrils, preventing the bonds from reforming and creating the basis of our Celova products.

What is
microfibrillated cellulose?

Microfibrillated cellulose is derived from wood, which is composed of a matrix of cellulose fibers. These fibers are made up of tiny fibril bundles held together by hydrogen bonds. Through a purely mechanical process, we carefully break these hydrogen bonds, allowing water molecules to insert themselves between the fibrils to prevent the bonds from reforming. The result is a gel-like, water-based suspension with a dense, fine network of microfibrils, offering a versatile and high-performance material for various applications.

Celova product range

Celova Care range

Celova is a natural, biodegradable substitute for microplastics and a perfect enhancer of key properties for personal care formulations.

Celova MFC range

Our microfibrillated celluloses have the potential to be a natural and sustainable alternative to petrochemicals.

Celova Powders range

The Celova range of cellulose powders consist of highly milled cellulose pulp with fiber lengths ranging from 0.5 mm – 1.6 mm.

Applications

  • Cosmetics and personal care

Celova MFC is a natural, biodegradable alternative to microplastics and an ideal formulation booster for personal care products. Color cosmetics, sun care, hair care and coloration, and skin care benefit from Celova’s sensory properties, including light scattering, soft focus effect, and decreased slip.

  • Coatings

Celova MFC can be used in barrier coatings for packaging solutions. It boosts oil and grease resistance and gas transfer of resin systems. Its fine cellulose fibril structure reinforces thin layers and prevents crack formation.

  • Bio-tech

Celova MFC is a natural formulation used in culture media, such as diagnostics food safety and fungal growth cultures. It acts as a scaffold for the growth of bio-materials that can replace plastics in the fashion, food, and automotive seating industries.

  • Films and membranes

Celova MFC can be applied to a carrier to build natural separator membranes used in energy production and storage. It offers low electrical conductivity and dimensional shrink and helps to disperse other additives and components in the film building process.
